A physical exam, or a physical, is a routine test wherein a healthcare professional inspects, feels, or listens to different parts a person's body.
Annual
Essentially, an annual physical is a general examination of your overall health. Your doctor will look at your health history and then will check your vital signs, such as heart rate, temperature and blood pressure. The doctor will also perform a comprehensive physical exam during the visit.
School
A school physical is a thorough medical examination that is often required for students by state law. Conducted annually, these well-care visits involve taking a detailed medical and family history that is then usually recorded on a form from the school.
Sports
A sports physical, known in the medical field as a pre-participation physical examination (PPE), helps to determine whether or not a child (or adult) is physically able to participate in a sport safely.
